Want.

March 19, 2010

Designed to complement the British Country Jersey, the GB Cap is made from a soft, lightweight technical cotton. Featuring a Union Jack-style stripe down the centre, it is highly water resistant, windproof and extremely breathable. The cap is finished with colour-on-colour Rapha logos and the inside is lined with moisture-wicking anti-bacterial tape. A thick elastic fastener holds the cap in place and the cap has a low enough profile to be worn under a helmet. The cap can be folded into a jersey pocket when not needed.

Dromarti Leather Goodness.

March 16, 2010

Come summer time you won’t find me in any other glove than a lovely pair of leather palmed crochet mitts. They age beautifully over time and in my experience tend to last longer than any other glove out there. Plus they make me feel like Felice Gimondi riding a tour, thus giving me a sort of ‘go faster stripe’.

At £99 these Dromarti’s are a touch out of my price league when compared to my £9.99 ebay mitts but nevertheless these are totally luxurious and if they make you ‘go faster’ then who am I to grumble at the price.

The Dromarti La Grande Mitt is supremely comfortable and the epitome of good taste and style. Each glove is individually handmade from soft Nappa leather, with a reinforced slim padded palm, featuring a hand crochet back, piped in leather with an adjustable closing strap displaying the Dromarti marque. To complete the picture La Grande Mitt comes complete with a handmade leather storage pouch.

Colnago Lust.

March 15, 2010

The latest made in Italy masterpiece from Colnago, the new EPS Di2 advances the state of the art in road racing bicycles.

We have improved our lugged carbon fiber frame to incorporate ports for the cabling of Shimano’s advanced Dura-Ace Di2 electronic gear shifting while maintaining the stellar EPS ride and handling.

The EPS Di2 shares the essential qualities of the EPS: light weight, toughness and durability. With Dura-Ace Di2 electronic gears, EPS Di2 offers shifting performance to match the EPS frame’s smooth, powerful ride.

With 22 sizes on offer, plus the option of custom construction for riders with specific requirements, you can be sure the EPS Di2 will fit perfectly.

God knows how much this is, actually I don’t think I want to know.

March 15, 2010

The week previous to Rapha’s Hell of the North ride comes this, the Northern UK equivalent to the monster that is the Tour of Flanders.

Come and join us for the real deal in East Lancashire on Sat 3rd April – cafe at the car park for post ride dissection, weather guaranteed (not saying what sort…) and of course more cobbles than you can shake a 24mm Pave tire at.

Budget.

March 15, 2010

it’s definitely a budget thing, because all of us have financial restrictions, whatever those might be; when it comes to choosing a new bicycle, there’s always a notional amount beyond which it is not wise to go, a limit either self-imposed, or imposed upon us by a partner who really can’t see why it is necessary to own more than one bicycle. just as an aside, I do have a certain sympathy with this, because it cannot be denied that the colnago has been sorely neglected since the cielo turned up (though I have told it that it is still loved as much as ever). I can only ride one at a time, review machines notwithstanding, and i figure most riders are the same, though I can see exceptions being made for those who need both road and cyclocross, and maybe mountain bikes, though i’m inclined to discount the latter option. just because I can.

An excerpt taken from the Washing machine post’s recent piece on the differences between cheaper and more expensive racing bicycle purchases. To spend more or to spend less?

A real interesting read. More here.

Club Racer Hotness.

March 12, 2010

The build: Stainless steel King cages, EDGE bars, seatpost, rims and stem, Campagnolo super record gruppo, White Industries hubs, White Brooks saddle, Paul Racer brakes, Challenge Roubaix tubular tires, Honjo stainless steel fenders, Chris King headset, Nitto M-18 rack, and a custom BaileyWorks rack bag, all mounted on a titanium lugged frame with carbon fiber tubes…. and of course a custom IF Club Racer fork.

Absolutely lugtastic! What a beaut this is. The more I see Independent fabrication’s work the more I want to be involved and when I say involved I mean… I want.

The Lotus Sport Bicycle from 1992. Is this the most beautiful Carbon track bike ever made?

This is a replica made by Lotus Engineering of the bicycle on which the British racer Chris Boardman won the Gold Medal in the 4km pursuit event at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. The bicycle was constructed largely from carbon fibre and weighed less than 9kg. It was designed by Mike Burrows for Lotus Engineering, and was extensively wind-tested to be as aerodynamic as possible, both from the perspective of the bicycle itself and the rider’s body position

If you are a keen reader then this Mike Burrows written book is well worth a look in terms of bicycle technology. And pay no attention to the recumbent on the cover either, it really is a great book full of great insight about all types of human powered vehicles.
