Bristol Bespoked. Photographs.

June 12, 2011

There was some great stuff on show, Ricky Feather’s track frame was stunning, as was Donhou’s road bike built for Tim of the Daily cycle and let’s not talk about the Dura Ace equipped Brother track bike. Feather and Donhou were also awarded prizes for best Best track frame and best Utility bike respectively, as voted for by the exhibitors.

All in all a top day with some amazing things to see and also plenty of ideas if you were thinking about a build, which is pretty much me the whole time but sans cash.

Bristol Bespoked
are already calling for exhibitors for 2012 so start pestering your local builder now, so we can see next year’s show being twice as big!

More pics of the day here at my flickrspot.

Donhou. Swan white.

Odin gave me a great mood board for his project and we worked closely on the paint firing plenty of drawings back and forth ’till we got it just right. Swan white with jet black interior panels. Big hi-5 as we’re both really stoked on it.

Built using oversized Reynolds 631 into a semi compact design and using a carbon fork to keep the weight down, this will be a fun little everyday bike.

Looking forward to meeting the man behind these frames tomorrow at the Bristol’s Bespoked… The countdown has begun!

Tim commutes on an old geared 90′s mountain bike nicknamed the “Monster Truck” and he came to me wanting something special as a second bike. He wanted a track frame for the road and something thats light, fast and a lot of fun, something thats a real contrast to his everyday ride, in his words “I want this one to be like a Ferrari in my shed”.

It’s got a sweet bar/stem combo, dropped seat stays, track ends with built in adjusters and I love the paint, every time I look at it reminds me of a Pantone swatch book. The frame is now waiting in the ‘shop for a full build…

Looking good, Tim. Shouts out to Tom Donhou on this one… It’s great to see new builders prosper.

I know Sparky wanted something special so he got an integrated seat post with custom expanding seat post stub to allow some adjustment should he change his seat or such things. Being a fair weather bike his bottom bracket got pretty heavily drilled and I carried this through to other areas such as the seat tube sleeve and modified Columbus Max crown. Yep couldn’t leave it alone, so I filled the window and drilled the tangs to make sure it tied in perfect with the frame.

The other main feature of this bike is the internal cable routing, with the rear brake cable exiting the rear of the seat tube, the rear derailleur cable exiting the bottom of the seat stay and the front derailleur cable coming straight out the back of the bottom bracket shell. Finished with a mix of Campagnolo parts this is one awesome road machine.

Yes it is, it’s a beaut. Donhou, it’s fair to say that you are currently ‘smashing it’. That’ll be street slang for ‘doing really well’. I think a trip to the workshop is on the cards. Congrats also to Sparkes, this is one lovely piece of kit you have, pal.

Bespoked Bristol.

February 18, 2011

A lot of you may already know this but:

Bespoked Bristol is the UK’s first handmade & boutique bicycle show celebrating the craft of beautiful bicycles. The event will showcase the talents of independent makers and designers of bicycles, small-scale makers of premium products, components, clothing, bicycle accessories, and media.

Bristol is the UK’s first Cycle City so is the ideal place to host the show which will be a focal point for makers and customers to come together and discuss and share ideas. Awards will be up for grabs, including the most beautiful bicycle and product of the show.

Above you will see a lovely piece of craftmanship by Tom Donhou who will be exhibiting at the show and it’s actually my pal Sparky’s BB too… Nice work chaps.

Bespoked takes place on 10th-12th June at Paintworks, Bristol and I will most certainly be attending.

For a full list of exhibitors go peep. You won’t be dissapointed!

Donnie has only just started building frames but already his work is looking amazing. If you are based anywhere near Norfolk and you are in the market for something, be sure to check this guy out.

Oh and Sparky, and you Tim, I want to see what he did for you when they are finished!

See more here.
