Boss Obree.

February 18, 2011

I can’t get enough of this bike. Everything has been considered in terms of making it as light as possible, look at it! It’s pretty darn ugly with it’s imperfections but in ways also quite beautiful.

I read that the aero bars attached to the front of this machine are completely custom and they took Obree himself three months to whittle down from a solid piece of aluminium. Now that’s what I am talking about. Simply brilliant.

Thanks Hardysan for the linkage.

Graeme Obree Geneva to Nice.

June 17, 2010

Once over the top, another amazing 1000m descent had Stuart and I in aero tucks on the long straights, and on the ragged edge of grip into the switchback sections. Cars by now were just an inconvenience to be drafted until we could out-sprint them into the bends. Taking a hand off the bars to give a thumbs up to any drivers that got out of our way as we swept past at 50mph-plus was exciting.

Great read and a few great shots too, especially loving the Galibier shots. My, my the sign that used to say ‘Col du Galibier’ now resembles something outside of a skateboard shop. Enough stickers, already!

1000 kilometres.

January 4, 2010

As we were all filling our faces with pie and sweets clocking up the grams Graeme Raeburn of Rapha was clocking up the miles ( kilometres ) in his self set challenge.

I’ve always wanted to do a 1000km in a week, it seems a nice amount but I always falter around the 800 mark due to work commitments or other distractions. I started thinking it would be interesting to do it in the middle of winter. The idea of sitting on my backside eating chocolates fills me with horror, so what better time than the week between Christmas Day and New Years Eve?

Gosh I suddenly feel terribly lazy!

Speaking of Obree.

Here is his hour record set in 1993 where he broke Moser’s previous record on a home made bike made out of bits of shed and washing machine.

Greame your a boss.
