White Turbo failings.

January 19, 2011

Don’t buy a White turbo. Simple. I mean, that is mine up there after being on the bike for no more than two weeks. As you can see ( or maybe not because of the poor attempt at an arty iphone shot gone wrong ) it is Borderline killed, creased to bits with the white dye or whatever it is completely worn away at the sides and on the tail. It’s not like I have been hammering it either, I have been pootling about to and from work. My thighs are hench, I am not going to lie but not so hench that they physically chafe the sides of the saddle like sandpaper to a block of cheese.

What is worse is that this particular white turbo was straight up out of the box NOS from 1992 and now look at it, positively NOS. What are these guys using to colour the pleather anyway… Tipp-ex? Chalk? Milk? Whatever it is, it’s crap.

Mind you, this saddle does have a lot of charm in it’s current state with it’s used look and I suppose it is also perched on top of something that is as far from a show bike as can be. It is also probably the comfiest saddle I have used ( sans bibs ) so I can forgive a little for that, that said I am used to a collapsed flite and also a Regal ( best looking saddle IMO but hard as Tyson, riding a Regal is like cycling with a brick between your legs ). I suppose I just wish this Turbo had lasted a little longer, so all I am saying is: if you want a white saddle that will remain white for longer than 2 weeks. Don’t buy a turbo.

That is all.

Once again BlueLug come through with the goodness.

December 11, 2009

The first saddle with a plastic shell in the history of cycling. The legendary Unicanitor is back and improved with the satin steel rail and the ultimate calibrated techno polymer base. The dimensions are identical to the ones of the most famous model.

I’ll take a Red one please.

San Marco Regal’e’.

November 3, 2009

It made history even before it was born.

It is the REGALe, “e” means evolution of a model that doesn’t need presentations. Indeed, the new saddle is founded on the known REGAL, born during the seventies and used by the greatest riders as Cipollini, Boonen, McEwen, LeMonde and Chiappucci. Classical inspiration, ultra-modern performances.

Always loved the original Regal although having never owned one myself. Now this rather updated version looks great and no doubt much lighter than it’s older brother, if that sort of thing bothers you ( Hardy ).

Seen here among the San Marco 2010 Collezione.

Brooks x EHBPC London.

July 9, 2009

The Swift EHBPC London is a limited edition of 250 saddles, featuring blue leather top and the impressed logo of the first European Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships held in London in 2009.

This saddle is part of the COLOURED LTD EDITION saddles made to support a series of events Brooks sponsor.

I have never been the biggest fan of Brooks saddles, however I do love what they do and I also love the fact that are based in my home town so big ups for Birmingham heritage!

Selle Italia Criterium

March 27, 2009

Just landed from Ebay.

Looks good, I’m looking forward to attaching it to the beater later on tonight as that plastic BMX saddle cannot be ridden on for longer than five minutes. Hardy I don’t know how you managed it!

Selle san Marco Goodness.

February 17, 2009

I didn’t realise this but you can actually buy saddles from the vintage 1935 collection direct from Selle San Marco for not a lot of money… well not comparing it to some Kashimax prices anyway.

Damn that Regal is looking good!

Via the NJS parts and frames supermarket.

I want one again… But I need purple, can anyone help me out with that?

Sit your ass down!

December 4, 2008

A bunch of sweet saddles just in at the Tokyo Fixed Gear pop up shop down in the big smoke. Especially feeling the white Cinelli but damn that sh*t would hurt on the daily grind, on an aluminium frame too… ouch! Am I prepared to pay that price for style? watch this space.
Go visit sometime… remember people, its a pop up shop so wont be there forever!
